Breast Implant Surgery Process:
Breast implant is performed by inserting an implant. The incision may be done around the areola, at the armpit or at the inferior breast folds depending on the patient’s choice and surgeon’s recommendations. The surgeon will then lift your breast tissue and skin and position the implant either under or over the breast muscle. The position of the implant is determined by the patient’s anatomy. After the implant has been inserted, the incisions are closed.

After Breast Implant Surgery:
You will be up and around already the day after your surgery and you should be able to return to work after only a few days, depending on the nature of your job. Physical contact with the breast and strenuous activities should be avoided for 3-4 weeks. Moreover, sex should be avoided for about 1 week. The stitches will be removed during your post-surgery follow up. Here the surgeon will also teach you the proper technique to massage your breast to avoid capsular contracture. The surgeon will tell you everything you need to know about post-surgery recovery and it is important that you follow his advice closely to ensure optimal healing.

Q&A:

  • What are the risks and complications of breast implant?

It is important that you keep it in mind that no matter how careful the surgeon or personnel is, the risk of complications cannot be eliminated completely. The most common complication is capsular contracture which causes the breast to feel hard. The silicone breast implants with a rough surface gives the lowest risk of capsular contraction as these are considered the safest breast implants and this is what our plastic surgeons at our partner hospitals suggest our patients to use. Oversensitive or undersensitive nipples may also occur in some women. This usually disappears in time, though. Lastly, breakage or leakage of the breast implants is another possible complication of breast augmentation. However, leaking of silicone filled implants may only be noticeable with an MRI scan or ultrasound. Therefore, it is advised that women with silicone breast implants have their implants regularly scanned. Please be noted that, the risk of complications arising can be reduced if you follow the surgeon’s advice closely.

  • How will my scar look?

Your scars will be firm and pink for at least six weeks. Then they may remain the same size for several months, or even appear to widen. After several months, your scars will begin to fade, although they will never disappear completely. The position of the scar depends on the location of the incision.

  • What are the types of breast implants?

The implants use for breast implant can be either:

  • Saline breast implants
  • Silicone breast implants

The only difference between silicone and saline implants is the material used to fill them but the shells of both are made of silicone rubber.  However, our cosmetic surgery partner prefers to use round silicone implants with textured surface as they are considered the best, safest and the most importantly is they are more natural look and feel.

  • Can pregnancy and breast feeding be done after breast implant?

Pregnancy may alter the results of breast implant surgery, so it is important to discuss your options with the plastic surgeon if you are considering having a baby in the future. Though, research would tell us that breast augmentation do not interfere with breastfeeding in the future as the implants are positioned under the glands, whether above or below the muscle. However, patients should understand, though, that there is no a 100% guarantee due to the fact that the healing process and the response to injury of the patient's body can never be predicted.  It is also said that the possibility of interference with breast milk pro.

  • What is the life of breast implant?

You should be aware that breast implants are not guaranteed to last a lifetime and future surgery may be required to replace one or both implants. The breast implants may move slightly with time, so the result is altered. This is caused by body changes and not the implants and once again the bodily changes brought about by pregnancy may negate the good results of a breast augmentation surgery. However, if you are happy with your breast augmentation then you can keep them all your life.

It would be very much preferable to have the implants checked by someone who has much experience with breast augmentation. Therefore, it is advised that women with silicone breast implants have their implants regularly scanned. The risk of complications arising can be reduced if you follow the surgeon’s advice closely and if you follow the surgeon’s advice closely.

The most important of having your implants check is that you can detect for any changes that might suggest long-term complications such as capsular contractures, etc. However, leaking of silicone filled implants may only be noticeable with an MRI scan or ultrasound.
